Seasonal Maintenance Tips for Your Container Dome Shelter

Looking for container dome maintenance tips? Here’s what you need to know upfront

  • Regular seasonal maintenance protects your shelter from wear, tear, and harsh weather.
  • Inspect your steel frame, fabric cover, and seals each season to prevent costly repairs.
  • Use recommended accessories to boost stability and waterproofing.
  • Regular upkeep helps your shelter last longer and ensures it stays cyclone-rated for Wind Region C.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through essential steps to maintain your container dome. Plus, you’ll find advice on accessories and why choosing a durable, Australian-certified dome matters more than ever.

Why regular container dome maintenance is crucial

Container dome shelters are engineered to withstand harsh environments, but like any outdoor structure, they require ongoing upkeep. Regular maintenance prevents small issues like fabric tears or rust from becoming costly repairs or safety hazards.

Maintaining your shelter will ensure that it continues to meet Australian wind load standards for Wind Regions A, B, or C, including its crucial cyclone-rated protection, thus providing ongoing safety for your assets.

Seasonal checklist for maintaining your container dome

We recommend completing a full maintenance check three months after installation and then annually thereafter. However, the seasonal tips below are designed to help you keep your shelter in peak condition year-round, alongside these scheduled inspections.

Spring: inspect and clean

  • Look for any tears or punctures in the PE fabric cover. If damaged, contact Ezy Igloo for a repair kit and follow the supplied instructions.
  • Examine the galvanised steel arches for signs of corrosion or rust. Lightly sand and respray with two coats of silver zinc spray if surface rust is present.
  • The base rail is a critical feature, so ensure the silicone strip is intact to prevent water from running under the cover flap.
  • Check sail tracks are in the correct position and that no screws have worked loose.

Summer: protect from sun and wind

  • Heat can stretch and loosen fabric so adjust tension to keep it tight and prevent flapping.
  • Keep branches clear to avoid scratches or storm damage.
  • Confirm all fixings or hold downs are secure.
  • Check all nuts, bolts, and screws to ensure they are tight, replacing any missing parts (available from Ezy Igloo).

Autumn: prepare for rain

  • Clear leaves and debris from runoff pathways.
  • Check the cover joins and seams for tears or holes.
  • Purchase a repair kit to prevent further damage.
  • Inspect the steel frame for dents or damage. Photograph any concerns and contact Ezy Igloo for advice.
  • Review any modifications or additions to the shelter to ensure they have not compromised its performance.

Winter: secure and monitor

  • Inspect and tighten bolts, straps, and tensioning ratchets after storms.
  • Check for any accumulation of snow or debris stressing the frame.
  • Inspect all welds for cracks or damage.
  • Take photos of your shelter (as per Ezy Igloo’s recommended angles) and keep them on file to support your maintenance records.
  • Consider endwall kits or additional anchor kits from our accessories range for extra protection.

Why invest in quality and certified container domes?

Price can be tempting when sourcing container shelters, but cheaper imports often compromise on materials and engineering standards. Our shelters are designed and engineered in Australia to meet stringent standards including Level of Importance 2 wind loads under AS/NZS 1170.

Our galvanised RHS steel frames undergo Mill Test Certificates and weld inspections, ensuring strength and longevity. Paired with Australian-made Canvavon® fabric featuring a 20-year UV warranty, our shelters stand up to the toughest conditions Australia can throw at them.

Case study: seasonal maintenance in action

A farming operation in northern New South Wales recently faced severe summer storms. Because the team regularly inspected and maintained their Ezy Igloo container dome by tightening the fabric, clearing debris, and checking anchors, the shelter performed flawlessly. Notably, their careful maintenance of the base rail and silicone seals ensured zero water ingress, protecting all of the expensive machinery stored inside.

Their experience shows just how consistent, seasonal care can prevent damage and downtime even under extreme weather.
